“Imagine” – John Lennon
I grew up listening to Imagine, and it has remained one of my favorite songs. There are times when it feels unnecessary to add anything to it –the words already say what I struggle to articulate.
When I listen now, I hear both hope and grief. Hope for what humanity could be, and grief for how often we fail the earth and one another. The song doesn’t accuse; it invites. And yet, decades later, its vision still feels just out of reach.
Some songs don’t age because they were never tied to a moment. Imagine belongs to every time we fall short and every time we try again.
