“Saving All My Love for You” – Whitney Houston
Houston, Texas… and listening to Whitney Houston while living in Houston may be just coincidence, but it marks my love for this song all the same. I first heard it back in Trinidad in 1985, but life had other plans before I knew it.
My parents were always private, and I believed we were simply going on vacation to the U.S.. Instead, we moved permanently –right after I graduated in Trinidad. I lost nearly everything I owned, leaving it all behind because I had no idea our address would change.
And yet, at the end of the day, home is where I am. Despite the upheaval, despite the losses, I am here in Houston, Texas. And somehow, Whitney’s voice became part of that new place, a reminder that even in transition, music can anchor you to the world you carry inside yourself.
