“Heat of the Moment” – Asia

It’s the early 80s, and music videos have become the latest craze. I would wait anxiously every Saturday to watch Billboard’s Top 10 on television. I remember seeing Michael Jackson’s iconic dance moves for the first time and discovering a slew of music artists I had never seen before.

Back then, we only had two channels over the air, no streaming or cable, and programming was limited but television was my window to the world beyond Trinidad. Radio brought the outside world a little faster; TV lagged by a few weeks, and movies by months. I’d hear about a film from someone on vacation and have to wait six long months before I could see it myself.

Heat of the Moment captures that feeling perfectly the thrill of discovering something new, the impatience, and the pure, unfiltered excitement of music arriving from far away.
