“Home Sweet Home” – Mötley Crüe

I’m in Houston, Texas, when this song hits the charts.

What is home? At this point, I ve lived in six homes in eighteen years. Yet, somehow, I’ve found a sense of belonging here among the Texans. My friends and I would play basketball on the outdoor school court, and I saw MTV for the first time at a friend’s house.

My parents returned to Trinidad after just a year, leaving me, at seventeen, with unprecedented freedom. It was thrilling –and yet boring– because I was stuck looking after my thirteen-year-old brother. Still, in those moments of fleeting independence, Home Sweet Home felt right: a reminder that home isn’t a place on a map, but wherever life and memory intersect.
