Streets of Fire is playing in the movie theatre, and this song pours out of it. A rock-and-roll fantasy stylized, exaggerated, and somehow irresistible. For reasons I never fully understood, it pulled me in completely.
I played the entire soundtrack endlessly, over and over again, until it felt like the movie lived inside the music rather than the other way around. The songs became scenes, moods, possibilities. And then there was Diane Lane.
She was my first actress crush, impossibly cool and luminous on screen. When I hear I Can Dream About You now, it carries all of that youthful fixation the way movies, music, and longing blur together when imagination does most of the living for you.
